This Is What I Want For Father’s Day…
I hope my wife is reading this post. I know, I know. Father’s Day is about spending time with your kids and family and loving every minute of it (which I do, believe me).
We’ll do Sunday brunch (which is, by far, my favorite meal of the week). AJ and I may run hills on Sunday morning (weather permitting). I may even get to watch my Michael Jordan DVD set since there are absolutely NO SPORTS on TV now that basketball and hockey are over (sorry, I just can’t get into Canadian football and I watch Tiger, not golf).
But the materialistic part of me actually wants stuff too. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t want things just for vanity or for the sake of just “having stuff”. I will actually put these things to good use. There is a functional purpose to my “wants”.
Here’s a list of what I want for Father’s Day…

The Ultimate Conditioning Tool
1. A Tractor Tire – The plan is to get one of these babies for the new outdoor gym. I’ll need one that’s kind of short and stubby and around 300lbs. This’ll be awesome for flipping (for some conditioning work) and for slamming a sledge hammer on (for some good core/power work). I’ll hope to get one of these in the next 3 weeks when the back yard’s done. It’d be a nice surprise to get one sooner, but I don’t expect my very pregnant wife to haul one into our minivan and have it waiting for me on Sunday morning.

Don't call me "Guido"!
2. Adidas Samba Classics - OK, before you start picturing me with a hairy exposed chest wearing 8 gold chains around my neck (or looking like one of the boys from “Growing Up Gotti”), hear me out. I coach AJ’s soccer team now. And a lot of the stuff we do is on either turf or real grass. Being a basketball & volleyball player for most of my life, the only “functional” shoes I have are hi-tops which really reduce the mobility in my ankles to demo the ladder and agility drills that I have the kids doing. These are cool and they work AND they’ve been around now for some 30 years. The classics always work as far as I’m concerned….
…and I can rock’em with jeans & a white t-shirt. Mint.

The Ultimate Man's Movie.
3. The 300 Movie on Blu Ray – This movie has it all for me – blood, sweat, guts, gratuitous violence, etc. It’s the quentisential guys’ movie. If you don’t own it or haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest it. One of my favorites is the bonus disc where they have the clips of how the actors trained for the movie. It’s intense stuff and will provide the perfect injection of TESTOSTERONE after you come home from seeing “He’s Just Not That Into You” with your wife.
OK, so that’s on my list. What’s on yours?
Chris, The FitAndBusyDad

8-hours of straight uninterrupted sleep. Really, I’d take this over almost anything right about now.
B
@Brad – Welcome to my world, sucka! Have you already forgotten what’s it’s like with a new born? How is the new young buck doing?
Brad you beat me too it. All I want is 8 hours of sleep and a single malt scotch.
Some new “skinny clothes” would be nice. I’m sure I look ridiculous still wearing XL t-shirts, pants 2 sizes too big, etc. but I HATE the idea of spending money to replace otherwise perfectly good clothes.
Gotta love the Samba Classics. I have worn them for years. Tried the Samba Millennium this time…not as good as the original.
An unrelated question…
For a long weekend trip this summer the family picked Toronto. Any advice on where to stay (or not stay) and anything that we can’t ‘not’ see, go, eat, or do?
Thanks!
I’m with everyone on the 8 hours of sleep! Oh and a couple of hours of watching the US Open this weekend.
I’m really liking those samba’s! 300 is the movie I pop in the blu-ray player everytime I don’t feel like working out. Taking one look at those guys get me motivated to get a workout in for fear of looking like the hunch-back guy in the movie.
I’ll trade you a pair of Samba for a pair of Stan Smith- Straight Up…
@Scott – Dude, now you’re just bragging! Go out and get some clothes that FIT, sir!
@mtwheels – Awesome, you’re coming to T.O.!?! As far as places to stay goes…if you’re looking for something sheik & cool, my wife and I stayed at the Soho Metropolitan (at Spadina & Wellington) for a weekend. Even though we didn’t have the kids with us, they were incredibly kid-friendly.
Don’t leave town without going to Brassaii on King West for brunch with the kids. Have the bacon-asiago biscuits…they’re amazing.
As far as stuff to do with the kids go…my troop loves Center Island. There’s a lot of hands-on stuff to do at the Art Gallery (it’s called the AGO) and St. Lawrence Market, Kensington Market & Chinatown are all great experiences.
Hope that helps!
-Chris
@Mike – 300, ironically, was on last night! I shouldn’t have watched it though because I felt the need to throtle someone and couldn’t get to sleep until around midnight.
@Anthony – Get me a tractor tire and you can have my Stan Smiths, baby!
